G5/7 Strategic Plan, Policy and Training Directorate

The Assistant Chief of Staff, Strategic Plans, Policy, and Training, also known as the “G5/7,” serves the Virginia Defense Force commander, under the VDF Chief of Staff, as the principal coordinator for all strategic planning, policy development, and training oversight actions.

As further outlined in the G5/7 duties SOP, G5/7 staff primary duties are:

1. The VDF G5/7 will be the principal coordinator for all strategic plans, policy, and training actions.
2. The VDF Plans OIC will promulgate and oversee completion of all Higher Headquarters-mandated policies, coordinate development and integration of long-range strategic plans, force structure initiatives, and policy alignment with higher headquarters (e.g., Virginia National Guard, Department of Military Affairs, and state/federal directives). The Plans OIC will monitor implementation of strategic guidance and support to VANG-aligned missions where applicable.
3. The VDF Training OIC oversees all training requirements, Soldier professional development, and other internal policy/training initiatives as the CG directs. The Training OIC will further coordinate Professional Military Education (PME), Officer Candidate School (OCS) matters, and advanced training programs with the respective PME and OCS Cadres.
